The Hermanus detour on Day 7 is optional rather than essential — skip it if the group prefers a rest day in Cape Town before the Garden Route drive. Add it if whale season aligns and marine wildlife is a priority.
Garden Route driving distances are manageable but cumulative. Do not underestimate how much time scenic stops, lunches, and coastal detours add to journey times. Build every drive day with a 30-minute buffer.
Flying between Cape Town and the Kruger region is strongly preferred over overland connections. The flight takes under two hours from Cape Town; driving would require an additional full day each way.
Book Kruger accommodation early. Private reserves in Greater Kruger — Sabi Sand, Timbavati, Thornybush — fill months ahead for peak season. SANParks rest camps also fill fast; reserve through the SANParks system as soon as dates are confirmed.
Robben Island ferry tickets sell out weeks ahead in summer. Book them before your Cape Town segment, not after you arrive.
Fourteen days is generous enough to breathe. Resist the urge to over-schedule: the best safari mornings, Winelands lunches, and Garden Route detours need room to extend beyond the plan without creating stress.
